Incorporating Twitter-Based Petitions into NationBuilder

Suggestion / Challenge:

Find Twitter-based petitions and write a script that can automatically incorporate the content logically into NationBuilder with the push of a button (and with the option to edit for any inadvertent conversion errors after the automatic incorporation).  Here is an example of such a petition prominently featured on Twitter (with a Care2 / backbone) currently trending on #OpBART:

Adriel, thanks for the comment on this suggestion. My thinking with this one is to see if a team could collaborate to write script (maybe at CityCampSF Hackathon) that would somehow parse out a tweet (such as the one cited in the Suggestion / Challenge example above) into several components for NationBuilder, apart from designating the tweet author (twitter handle): (1) Description, (2) Hashtags, (3) Petition Link (if incorporated in the tweet) and (4) associated / cited twitter users in the tweet. For the tweet cited in the above example, — a successful script would create a result with the push of a button (OAuth) — it would also recognize terms such as “cc” or “via” and weed them out — and the output in NationBuilder would look like this:

    TWEET AUTHOR (twitter handle)
A petition for a public takeover of BART!
    #opBART #occupySF #occupyOakland

Thanks for the suggestion! NationBuilder will already pull in any mentions of a particular Twitter handle if it’s authorized as a broadcaster, but it doesn’t yet do so for hashtags. This might be a good suggestion to add at (since there is not yet a RESTful API for NationBuilder, this function would have to be added by internal developers for the time being).
